India Will Be In A Position To Vaccinate Its Adult Population By 2021 End: Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Friday (21 May) said that by the end of 2021, India will be in a position to vaccinate at least all of its adult population, reports Livemint.

Addressing a COVID-19 review meeting with state health ministers, Dr Vardhan said, “Between August and December 2021, India will have procured 216 crore vaccine doses, while by July this year, 51 crore doses will be procured.”

During the meeting, Dr Vardhan also shared that the country’s health facilities are presently being upgraded upon the speculation that the virus might mutate in future and endanger children.

Dr Vardhan also reviewed the public health response to COVID-19 and the progress of vaccination in Chhattisgarh, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Ladakh, and Lakshadweep.

Meanwhile, during the meeting, Dr Vardhan also said that all the states and the union territories (UTs) have been asked to notify black fungus (Mucormycosis) as an epidemic and to ensure that all the cases of the disease are duly reported.
