Diesel-Loco Modernisation Works (DMW), Patiala has created history by manufacturing India’s first eight-wheeler underslung Diesel Electric Tower Car (DETC). The DETC is a self-propelled unit that will be used for periodic inspection.
It will also be used for patrolling and maintenance of the overhead electric transmission equipment. DETC can also tend to breakdown sites.
Part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, DETC will be able to respond to the damage of OHE equipment. Other features include carrying auxiliary equipment, seating room with kitchen for attendants and supervisors, high-speed dual traction power pack with controls and a desk for the driver in a cubicle on both ends of the car, Financial Express reported.
The DETC also has an elevated platform, an observation dome, room for OHE testing equipment and tools to deal with accidents.
A diesel engine with compressor, auxiliary alternator, fuel tank, traction alternator and water-raising apparatus have also been included. The roof includes an observation dome and a hydro radiator unit which can be used to hydraulically operate the lift mechanism.
