The Indian Railway's Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Delhi has reportedly manufactured 152 Linke Hoffman Bush (LHB) coaches, which is its highest ever, reports Financial Express.
According to the report, the factory is almost doubling its production since 2014-2015, when it manufactured 140 coaches.
Almost 285 LHB coaches were manufactured in 2015-2016, 576 coaches in 2016-2017 and 711 coaches in 2017-2018.
By November 2018, the MCF was progressing fast to achieve the target of 1,232 coaches set by the Railway Board, crossing its installed capacity of 1,000 coaches.
With the manufacture of 152 LHB coaches in January 2019, as many as 1,140 coaches have been produced by the MCF so far in the current fiscal.
In light of PM Modi’s expectations, the Railway Board has reportedly enhanced targets to ensure production of 1,422 LHB coaches by the end of March this year, doubling the output of 2017-2018.
In 2017, the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai manufactured the first 100 per cent Made-in-India LHB coach.
As of now, the production of ICF-design coaches has been wholly stopped as Indian Railways aims to replace all old ICF-design coaches with new LHB coaches in the coming years.
