In what might be an affirmation of India’s status as one of the largest growing domestic aviation market, nine domestic airline routes find mention in the list of 100 busiest routes globally, Business Standard has reported. The Mumbai-Dubai route is the sole international entry in the above list.
Among the domestic routes, the Mumbai-Delhi sector came in as the fifth busiest route globally with an estimated 7.12 million passengers flying between the two cities in 2017. Other busy routes in India include the Bengaluru-Delhi and Bengaluru-Mumbai sectors which saw flying figures of 4.18 and 3.44 million passengers respectively.
The Asia-Pacific region is shown to have dominated the top 10 busiest flying routes in the world. Further asserting the dominance of Asian countries in global aviation moments, the report noted that 14 domestic routes from China also figured in the top 100 busiest global routes.
The status of the busiest aviation route in the world however was claimed by Jeju-Seoul Gimpo in South Korea with an estimated 13.4 million passengers flying between the two destinations in 2017.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
