India’s Largest Car Maker Maruti Suzuki Reports 22 Per Cent Decline In Year-On-Year Sales

Maruti Suzuki India (MSI), on Saturday (1 June) has reported a decline of 22 per cent on sales with 1,34,641 units sold in May 2019, compared to 1,72,512 units sold in the same month last year, the Money Control reports.

According to a statement by India’s largest car manufacturer, domestic sales had declined by 23.1 per cent to 1,25,552 units compared to 1,63,200 units in the year-ago month.

Mini cars- Alto and WagonR sales were down by 56.7 per cent from last May’s 37,865 units to 16,394 units. The compact segment fared similarly, falling 9.2 per cent from 77,263 units to 70,135 units. The compact segment includes models of Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire.

Sedan Ciaz sold 4,024 units in May 2018 and reduced to 3,592 units in May 2019. Utility vehicles like Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Eritga fell down by 25.3 per cent from 25,629 units a year ago to 19,152 units.

Exports fell by the least of all- 2.4 per cent from 9,312 units in May 2018 to 9,089 units in the same month this year, the statement adds.
