In a big boost for India's ambitious renewable energy push, the country saw solar energy generation capacity jump by 12-fold to 2.488 Gigawatts (GWs) during the April-June period in 2021 compared to the same period a year ago, reports Economic Times.
According to Mercom India Research, the solar capacity addition in India in the said span was 19 per cent higher than the 2.09 GWs of capacity installed in the January-March period of 2021.
It should also be noted that the solar capacity addition in April-June 2021 is the highest in any quarter since the same period in 2018. This comes despite various state-level lockdowns due to the COVID-19 pandemic's devastating second wave.
Also, cumulatively, in January-June 2021, India saw the installation of 4.578 GWs of capacity. This is significantly higher than 3.2 GWs of solar capacity installed in all of 2020 in India, the research firm said in its report titled "Q2 2021 India Solar Market Update".

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
