With no respite, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Saturday (18 July) that as per a study, an estimated 25 million Iranian citizens could have already contracted the COVID-19 viral disease since the outbreak began, reports Times of India.
Emphasising on the need for people to take the pandemic seriously, Rouhani shared that as per the study's estimations, as many as 30 to 35 million more Iranian citizens are likely to be infected by the virus in the coming months. It should be noted that Iran has a net population of about 81 million.
The situation, based on the aforementioned study cited by President Rouhani, is set to further vitiate, with the number of hospitalisations predicted to soon double from the number of hospitalisations registered in the past 150 days.
Meanwhile, the study from which the estimations were shared by President Rouhani and its basis has not been made public so far.
Worst hit by the pandemic in the entire Middle East region, Iran has been witnessing the daily toll of deaths due to COVID-19 hit an all-time high over the recent weeks.
