Jats have called off their Parliament and Delhi gherao scheduled from 20 March after successful meeting with Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Before going into the meeting with Khattar, the All-India Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) leader Yashpal Malik had said that they had some issues which could only be resolved through a dialogue.
PTI reported that Malik met Khattar with a group of 60-70 representatives of various khaps of the Jat community and Union Cabinet Ministers Birender Singh and PP Chaudhary were also present at the meeting.
CM Khattar held a press conference after the meeting. He informed that an understanding has been reached on five issues:
1) The state and the central governments will strive to give reservation to Jats both in education and jobs. As soon as the Punjab and Haryana High Court announces its judgment, the government will start work to include Jats reservation in the ninth schedule so that it can be shielded from judicial scrutiny.
2) All the cases filed against Jat protestors since 2010 will be re-analysed. Khattar assured that the community will get justice.
3) Dependents of those who died last year in Jat agitation and those injured will get government jobs
4) Theose injured in last year’s agitation will be given compensation announced earlier.
5) All the officers who were found wanting in the execution of duties during last year’s agitation will be investigated and strict action will be taken against them.
The development comes hours after Khattar urged protestors to meet him and other ministers ahead of the agitation. Jat leader Yashpal Malik has confirmed the scheduled meeting with the Chief Minister at 12 p.m. today. Earlier today, Khattar said the government was serious about the issues of the Jat community and assured them of resolving the issue soon.
