As many as 150 girls from the Kashmir valley's Bandipora District have made at least one lakh masks to contribute in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, reports Times of India.
All the 150 girls who were involved in the initiative belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families in Bandipora district, which has seen the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the UT. Bandipora alone has reported 91 confirmed cases of the disease.
The girls prepared the masks under centrally-sponsored National Rural Livelihood Scheme (NRLS), and the same are now expected to be sold at Rs 7 each. Meanwhile, they have a target to stitch three lakh more such masks.
The masks will be sold to the residents of Bandipora via the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that J&K has so far reported 380 confirmed cases, of which 81 have already been cured, while five have lost their lives.
