In a saddening development, a police inspector was shot dead by two terrorists carrying pistols on the outskirts of Srinagar on Tuesday evening.
According to the Police, on Tuesday evening at about 8 pm, two unidentified terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the police inspector Parvez Ahmad in front of the local mosque, while he was going for prayer at Menganwaji Nowgam area of Srinagar district. Notably, Ahmad was the fourth cop to be killed by terrorists in the union territory in the last two weeks.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that two terrorists fired upon a police inspector Parvez Ahmad Dar from pistols while he was going to offer Maghrib Prayers. In this terror incident, he sustained grievous bullet injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries,” inspector general of police Vijay Kumar said.
“We pay our rich tributes to the martyr who left behind his wife and inconsolable two young children a 13 years old daughter and 10 years old son, " the police official added.
Jammu and Kashmir police have now released CCTV footage of the two terrorists firing upon the police inspector, reports Hindustan Times.
In the video clip, two men with pistols can be seen firing at the officer who is walking on the roadside from point-blank range.
“Identification is being done. Suspects are being questioned. ...Officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this terror crime,” the police said.
The police have also registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law. An investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the circumstances which lead to this terror crime. The area has been cordoned off and searches in the area are going on.
