Tamil film actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party chief Kamal Haasan has accepted Rahul Gandhi's invite to join the Bharat Jodo yatra. Haasan would participate in the yatra at Delhi on 24 December.
The announcement was made by Haasan himself in a meeting of party office-bearers held recently, according to party spokesperson, Murali Appas.
After this announcement, political commentators in Tamil Nadu say that there is a possibility of the MNM joining hands with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) too, as the Congress is an ally of the DMK.
Electoral success has eluded the MNM and an alliance is being seen as the only way for it to remain politically relevant.
The MNM had contested all 39 Lok Sabha seats in the state but the stardom of Haasan failed to turn into electoral success, as all candidates of the party lost their deposit.
Later in the 2021 Assembly elections, Haasan lost to Vanathi Srinivasan of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Coimbatore South constituency.
