Priyank Kharge, Minister for Social Welfare in the JD(S)-Congress combine in Karnataka, has courted controversy by comparing the electronic media with terrorists. He described the media as being “more dangerous than terrorists”.
Deccan Chronicle quoted Kharge as saying, “Friends in the electronic media are firing at us in the guise of giving breaking news; the electronic media’s ‘firing’ has spread misconceptions about politics and politicians.”
Furthermore, he stated, “Even terrorists are better than the media, they kill instantly; however the media kills us every day,” Deccan Chronicle reported. He later retracted the statement saying that his objective was to ‘inform’ students of journalism that they have to ‘stand by the truth’.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
