The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Tamil Nadu BJP state president K Annamalai as the party's in-charges for the Karnataka Assembly election scheduled in April-May of 2023.
Pradhan was in charge of Karnataka during a tough phase when former chief minister and senior leader BS Yediyurappa left the party. He was also the observer sent by the party high command during the handing over of reins to Basavaraj Bommai.
Most recently, he was in charge of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections, in which the BJP won a historic successive mandate.
According to political commentators, while Annamalai does not have prior experience as a party in-charge in another state, he would be a good fit because he has served as a police officer in Karnataka and earned a good name for himself during his tenure.
They added that the decision to appoint Annamalai reflects his rising stature and the party's increased confidence in him.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
