The Kerala state government has offered an interest-free loan of Rs 2 crore to the Shree Padmanabhaswamy temple situated in Thiruvananthapuram.
Back in May 2021, a concerned executive officer from the temple had requested Rs 10 crore as a loan from the government as they wished to deal with the daily expenses, staff salaries, and pensions.
The temple's requirements rise to Rs 4 lakh on a day-to-day basis to fulfil these purposes. Still, their remittances stand at only Rs 2 lakh daily irrespective of the recently-concluded Mandala season, reports Matrubhumi.
The temple is mandated to pay back the loan amount within a year, and the state government's finance ministry gave special consent to allow this sum to go through.
Moolam Thirunal Rama Varma, the titular Maharaja of Travancore, is the temple's trustee as Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the royal family.
The temple had to look after about 200 permanent and temporary employees, and they managed to break even with their expenses until the pandemic struck. However, they have dealt with troubles on this front for the last couple of years and hence approached the state government for some financial assistance.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
