Kerala police has arrested a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker for a Facebook posting of a dilapidated bus stand in Aranmula constituency in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district and seeking action from the constituency legislator, reported India Today.
In his posting, the BJP worker S Sooraj asked the legislator Veena George, who is backed by the Communist Party of India-Marxist,
“Dear MLA madam (referring to Veena), it would be helpful if you can address the issue after beauty parlours and Orthodox dinners. Madam you have government vehicle to travel. Otherwise, there would be enough vehicles of the Church or Muthoot (an NBFC). The voters don’t have other means, madam,” Sooraj said in his post on 3 June.
Sooraj was arrested after George filed a complaint with the police alleging that it was a communally provocative and insulted women. Sooraj was later released on bail. Despite the case, Sooraj said he would not delete his post.
The case once against highlights allegations of bias against Kerala police. Not just the BJP, but even parties like the Indian Union Muslim League have charged Kerala police with bias. Last month, an intelligence report on Kerala police said that the force has been highly politicised.
