The tribal youth, Madhu, was beaten up by locals after being tied up and handed over to the police, who rushed him to the hospital. However, he started vomiting in the police vehicle and collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The locals took selfies with Madhu while he was tied up and beaten. The mob can also be seen enjoying the torture being meted out to the disturbed youth. The police has registered an attempt-to-murder case against 15 people, of which seven have been arrested, and the police is now on the hunt for the remaining absconders.
Madhu was reportedly mentally challenged and used to stay in the forest occasionally. His relatives are now protesting at the Government Tribal Specialty Hospital and have refused to collect his body until all of the accused are under police custody.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called the incident a black mark on the state’s social and cultural progress.
