Members of the ruling Shiv Sena on Sunday (30 December) forced a movie theatre in Maharashtra’s Kolhapur to stop screening a Kannada film and also threw ink on posters having Kannada words, India Today has reported.
The mob of Shiv Sena workers also burnt an effigy of Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, during their protest.
Soon after assuming power, the Shiv Sena led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi had raked up the border dispute between the two state by accusing the central government of favouring Karnataka in the dispute.
This resulted in Karnataka Navnirman Sena (KNS) burning Marathi hoardings and billboards in Belagavi and adjoining areas, in retaliation. Bus service on the Kolhapur-Belgavi route has been suspended as a result.
Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had controversially called Belgavi and its nearby areas as “Karnataka occupied Maharashtra”.
