The Karnataka Government under H.D Kumaraswamy has decided to scale down the Dasara festival this year owing to recent floods and landslides in Kodagu District and draught in 65 taluks of the state. The traditions and programs though would remain intact during the 10-day festival, reports Deccan Chronicle.
“The decision to scale down the festivities had been taken on the recommendation of the elected representatives, officers and others”, said Kumaraswamy chairing a meeting of the Dasara high power committee on Tuesday ( 28 August).
Traditions and programmes, including the Yuva Dasara would remain intact. Mysuru city will be also illuminated as usual says the Chief Minister.
The Dasara festivities would be inaugurated on 10 October by Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation. Kumaraswamy said she was chosen based on her social work and for being a writer and an expert in the field of education.
The government also plans to hold some of the events throughout the year.
“We don’t want the programmes that have been planned for Dasara to end with it. We are considering hosting some programmes like the folk fair, showcasing traditional folk dances and culture of rural Karnataka, around the year in Mysuru. We also want the exhibition to be held round- the- year. There is also a proposal for a permanent Dasara authority,” the Chief Minister revealed.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
