Left Front chairman Biman Bose acknowledged that the “thought” behind the 12-hour strike to protest the withdrawal of higher value currency notes was “wrong” after the protest failed to evoke a satisfactory response from the public, reported DNA.
The Left parties had announced the strike at 8pm on 25 November - a short notice for the protest, Bose admitted, as the day of protest saw most vehicles plying on the roads as usual and shops and markets choosing to remain open.
Rival Trinamool Congress’ general secretary Partha Chatterjee said it was “good that they have understood the basic fact that people are fed up with strikes and bandhs”. Bharatiya Janata Party took a harder stance by terming the strike a “flop show”.
