In a bid to further the Union Government's efforts to stamp out malnutrition, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Sunday (25 August) called for observing the entire month of September as 'Poshan Abhiyaan' at a pan-India scale, reports Asian News International (ANI).
Making the announcement during his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' radio programme addressed to the citizens of India, PM Modi said, "Today, due to lack of awareness, both poor and rich families are affected by malnutrition. The entire month of September will be observed as 'Poshan Abhiyaan' across the country."
Under the 'Poshan Abhiyaan' PM Modi has resolved that the nation wouldthe drive to fight against the malaise of malnutrition into a mass movement through sundry scientific approaches.
It should be noted that even in its previous term of five years, the Modi government had laid emphasis on the fight against malnutrition. The announcement by PM Modi thus gains significance, signalling continuity of the policy and governmental push to fight malnutrition which remains rampant across the nation.
