Mumbai New Delhi Rajdhani. (Image via @indianrailway.gov/Facebook)Indian Railways will be inducting the push-pull technology by using two locomotives in the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express to reduce the time taken to travel by an hour between the two cities, the Financial Express reports.
CPRO of Western Railway, Ravinder Bhakar said that the train will be pulled by two locomotives with one at each end. “The push-pull technology helps enhance the throughput of the train and on this route will help reduce travel time by about 45-60 minutes,” Bhakar said.
The train leaves from the Mumbai Central railway station at 5 pm to arrive at the New Delhi railway station next morning at 8.30 am. The train which was inaugurated back in 1972, passes through Borivali, Surat, Vadodara, Ratlam, Nagda and Kota, and runs with the maximum speed of 130 km/hr.
The train takes 15 hours 30 minutes on average to cover the financial capital with the national capital. The time will be brought down by an hour once both the locomotives start operating.
Both locomotives of 6,000 Horsepower (HP) will pull the train, hence saving energy due to regeneration from the engines braking. Besides reducing the time taken, Railways is hoping that the technology will increase the average speed of passenger trains due to faster acceleration and elimination of locomotive reversal at the terminal station.
Bhaskar also said that Mumbai CSMT-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express that passes via Bhopal and the August Kranti Rajdhani Express will have and use the pull-push technology regularly.
