Pune Based diagnostics company Mylab Discovery has said that it can increase the production of its at-home Covid-19 test kits to 100 million units per week according to the demand in the next four-six weeks.
The development comes as the company has got approval from India's apex medical research body for at-home use of its 'Coviself' rapid antigen kit (RAT) test for Covid-19.
“Any individual without any technical expertise can perform the test. And our objective is to make sure it reaches villages as well,” Mylab CEO Rahul Patil was quoted in a Economic Times report as saying.
The company is planning to kick off the shipping of its test kit within a few days and also targets to manufacture seven million kits next week.
CoviSelf, Mylab’s antigen test, is unlike the molecular PCR tests that need a laboratory in to get the results.
This development is bound to massively ramp up Covid-19 testing numbers in the country, due to the sheer convenience with which people can determine whether they have been infected by SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19.
Coviself was approved for use by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) earlier this week and Mylab will reportedly launch it Rs 250 per test kit. It can be procured from online channel partners and local pharmacies even without a prescription.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
