Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday (17 May) held her fifth press conference to announce the last tranche of economic stimulus package and reforms under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (Self-reliant India campaign).
Starting the press conference she announced that the focus will be on MNREGA, healthcare, education, ease of doing business, PSU related policies, state govt’s and related resources.
She stated that a new Aatmanirbhar Bharat will stand on a new Public Sector Enterprise Policy.
She added that in pursuant to this dream , there is a need for more coherent policy where all sectors are open to private sector while the public sector enterprises (PSEs) will play an important role in defined areas.
Further, in strategic sectors, only 1-4 PSEs will remain, others to be merged/ brought together for minimising administrative costs. Additionally, private sector will be allowed in strategic sectors.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
