A panel appointed by the Ministry of Human Research Development (HRD) to draft a new National Education Policy (NEP) has asked an extension of three months till March 2018. The panel, headed by former ISRO chief K Kasturirangan was originally set up by the ministry in June this year and was to submit its final report this month, reports Times Now.
The current NEP, framed in 1986, was last revised in 1992. A new NEP was among the poll promises of the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. The committee has eight other members that include mathematician Manjul Bhargava along with former IAS officer K J Alphonse.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
