Special counsel Robert Mueller after concluding his investigation has found neither any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, or any obstruction of justice on the part of President Donald Trump.
A letter Attorney General William Barr sent to Congress on Sunday (24 March) summarising the final report on Mr. Mueller’s investigation, Wall Street Journal reported.
According to a summary of the special counsel’s conclusions written by Barr and submitted to Congress on Sunday (25 March), Mueller’s almost two year investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election failed to yield any incriminating evidence that Trump or anyone associated with his campaign aided in Russian efforts to sway the election in his favour.
“Special counsel did not find anyone with the Trump campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in these efforts, despite multiple offers from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist the Trump campaign.” Barr wrote in a four-page letter to Congress that summarised his “principal conclusions” after reviewing the report.
In the absence of a determination from Mueller, Barr said that he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein concluded that Trump’s actions do not warrant any criminal action against him.
Barr in his letter said that Mueller concluded the Russian government tried to interfere with the election through two “main” efforts - social media propaganda, and hacking and leaking Democrats’ emails. (Mueller has already indicted various overseas Russians for both offences.
Barr noted in his letter “The Special Counsel found that Russian government actors successfully hacked into computers and obtained emails from persons associated with the Clinton campaign and Democratic Party organisations, and publicly disseminated those materials through various intermediaries, including WikiLeaks”.
“Based on these activities, the Special Counsel brought criminal charges against a number of Russian military officers for conspiring to hack into computers in the United States for the purposes of influencing the election“.
The White House celebrated Barr’s summary as a victory for Trump.
“The Special Counsel did not find any collusion & did not find any obstruction. Attorney General Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein further determined there was no obstruction. The findings…are a total & complete exoneration of the President of the U.S,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement.
The Special Counsel did not find any collusion and did not find any obstruction. AG Barr and DAG Rosenstein further determined there was no obstruction. The findings of the Department of Justice are a total and complete exoneration of the President of the United States.â

Speaking to reporters in Florida, Trump called the findings a “complete and total exoneration.” Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, described the report as “better than I expected.”
