No More ‘Kanyadan’: Cine And TV Artists Association Temporarily Expels Alok Nath After #MeToo Allegations

Veteran TV and film actor Alok Nath has been expelled temporarily by the Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA) for failing to appear before the committee in relation to the sexual assault allegations against him.
In a wake of #MeToo movement in India, the 62 year old actor famous for his roles of a loving father in several hit films like Hum Saath Saath Hain, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun etc was accused by writer-produce Vinta Nanda of raping her multiple times more than 19 years ago.
After multiple allegations surfaced, Nath was summoned to appear before the committee on Monday (12 November), the failure to comply to which led to his temporary expulsion on Tuesday (13 November).
In a statement released to Twitter, CINTAA said, "In view of the various allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against Mr Alok Nath, after due diligence and consideration, the Executive Committee of CINTAA has decided to expel him from the Association."
The statement also stated clearly that the failure of Alok Nath to the annual general meeting on 1 May next year will result in permanent expulsion.
When contacted , Nath denied receiving anything from CINTAA yet , as reported by Hans India.
Apart from Vinda , actresses Sandhya Mridul, Deepika Amin among others have also accused Alok Nath of sexual misconduct. Nath denied all the allegations as false and has also filed a defamation case against Nanda.
