The state of Ohio in America has 18 of the 270 electoral college votes any candidate needs to win the presidential elections. At the time of writing, more than 70 per cent of the ballots had been counted so far in the state and Donald Trump had got 50.2 per cent of that vote.

Joe Biden was trailing at 48.5 per cent.

In the run up to the Election Day, Ohio was identified as a 'battleground state' along with Florida, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and this time, even Texas.

A battleground state is one where the contest is too close to call before all the ballots have been reported on the final day.

In 2016, Ohio was won by Donald Trump who was up against Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton.
