According to United States based security firm Cyble, a database of around 22 million users of education portal Unacademy is up for sale on the darkweb, reports Economic Times.
As per the report, the company suffered a breach in January after which the database, which contains the contacts of employees of Wipro, Infosys, Cognizant, Google and its investor Facebook, was put up for sale.
The security firm stated that database includes usernames, emails addresses, passwords, date joined, last login date, first and last names, account profile and account status (whether the account is active) and were put up for sale as recently as 3 May for $2000.
Commenting on the development, Unacademy confirmed that the basic information related to 11 million learners had been compromised but added that no sensitive information such as financial data, location or passwords were leaked.
The security firm Cyble further warned that the hackers may have access to more information and maybe putting up only the user record up for sale at the moment.
The firm further said that the registered Unacademy learners and educators should immediately change their passwords on the site.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
