The Ministry of Railways on Tuesday (4 January) said that more than 75 per cent of North Eastern Railway (NER) routes have been electrified and 100 per cent electrification on the NER routes is likely to be achieved by the end of the year 2022.
The ministry further said that after electrification of main NER routes, the expenditure on high speed diesel (HSD) has been considerably reduced registering a saving of Rs 361 crore.

Total 31 pair trains which originate or terminate on North Eastern Railway are running on Head On Generation (HOG) system, the ministry said.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
