Pakistan has launched a Covid-19 vaccine named PakVac, which has been developed through Chinese assistance and is a localized version of the latter’s Cansino vaccine.

Dr Faisal Sultan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health, has assured that the large-scale production of PakVac will kick off soon as China has already supplied the required raw material for the same in early May.

The vaccine will be filled and packaged in Pakistan and sold under the aforementioned brand name as Dr Sultan ensured that it has undergone stringent internal quality control checks along with tests, deeming it to be adequately fit for production purposes.

Nong Rong, Chinese ambassador to Pakistan, confirmed in his address that Pakistan is the first country that has accepted the Chinese vaccine as a gift, even proclaiming this development to be a testament to the friendship that both the nations share.

“China was already a friend and came forward when coronavirus hit Pakistan. Developing the vaccine from raw materials is not an easy task. (We are) proud of the people that developed the vaccine at the NIH,” Dr Sultan was quoted in a report.
