Land acquisition for the construction of the 1.2 km metro on the Pettah-SN Junction stretch will begin in February, reports Deccan Chronicle.
“The hearing for rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) package was completed, and the report is submitted to the commissionerate in Thiruvananthapuram for approval,” a revenue department official was quoted saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Almost 1.12 hectares is to be acquired from 160 individuals and shop-owners. The initial deadline was January, but, however, the process took more time due to challenges such as the floods in August and frequent hartals.
"The metro service till SN Junction was initially promised to be completed as part of the first phase," said VC Jayendran, convener, Trippunithura Raja-nagari Union of Residents' Associations. “Then, they promised to complete the land acquisition process and start construction by 1 January. This, too, was not done.”
