After calling Prime Minister a ‘scorpion sitting on a Shivling’, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has now referred to the PM as a “hero on a white stallion with an upraised sword in his hand.” For his earlier comment made at the Bengaluru Literature Festival, a criminal defamation complaint has been filed already.
Hindustan Times quoted him as saying, “Modi is a one-man government and everybody is dancing to what he says. Every decision is taken by the PMO. Every file has to be sent to the PMO for approval. This is the most centralised a Prime Minister’s Office has ever been.”
He criticised the government’s implementation of demonetisation, GST and termed the current government’s foreign policy as a failure. To cover up the flaws of the BJP, they are aiming to rake up religious issues and build statues, he added. He said that the government was trying to hide the Rafale issue and oil prices by inciting religious polarisation among the masses.
Construction of Ram Mandir is receiving support from many leaders in the BJP and other parties. Recently, Union Minister Vijay Goel said that the work must be carried out soon at the earliest possible. The means can be anything - constitutional, legislative, judicial or community engagement.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
