Following reports of ventilators remaining unutilised in some of the States, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi yesterday (15 May) called for an immediate audit of the installation and operations of the ventilators provided to the States and Union Territories (UTs) by the Centre, reports Times of India.

PM Modi’s call for the audit of ventilators came during a review meeting which was held yesterday. He also said that refresher training should be provided to the healthcare workers for properly operating the ventilators to ensure that glitches are resolved without any delay. He also directed that power supply be ensured for the smooth operation of such medical devices.

PM Modi also pushed the States to report their numbers transparently without any pressure of high numbers showing adversely on their efforts. He pressed for the need to scale up testing with the use of both, RT-PCR testing and rapid tests.

With a focus on rural areas, PM Modi directed that a distribution plan should be prepared to ensure oxygen supply in these areas, including through the provision of oxygen concentrators.
