The digital channels of the Government's Prasar Bharati recorded more than 100 per cent growth in 2020 with Pakistan contributing the second-highest digital audience for All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) after India, reports Times of India.
The channels across DD and Akashvani clocked over a billion digital views and over six billion watch minutes in 2020. Also, while India and Pakistan contributed to the highest digital audiences on these channels, these were followed closely by the audiences from the United States (US).
The year also saw Prasar Bharti's mobile application 'NewsOnAir' adding more than 2.5 million users and garnering over 300 million views. AIR News' Northeast service also surge past the one lakh subscribers milestone, underscoring the substantial audience for news in the region. The year also saw Prasar Bharati launch a dedicated YouTube channel for Sanskrit language content.
Other than these, among the most popular videos viewed in 2020 on Prasar Bharati's digital channel were Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's interaction with school students, Republic Day parade, and a rare video of Shakuntala Devi from the DD National's archives, circa 1970s.
