In yet another embarrassing development for Pakistan, a convoy of 22 vehicles carrying Chinese engineers employed in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was attacked in the city of Karachi on Monday (1 April) by fighters from the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), reports The Economic Times.
The attack happened in the backdrop of Prime Minister Imran Khan visiting the Gwadar, a major port city in Balochistan. The exact number of casualties, of whom the majority are engineers and workers, is not known.
The incident took place in front of Hamdard University of Karachi, with a remote controlled bomb being detonated, killing several.
In a message to the Pakistani prime minister and international investors in the region, the BLA commander, Jeeyan Baloch said, “The Balochi fighters are capable of defending their land. This attack is the continuity of BLA’s policy of not allowing any force into our region, including China, to plunder our wealth. Such attacks shall continue until China exterminates its nexus with Pakistan”.
BLA, a staunch voice opposed to the CPEC , has carried out its third such attack in last six months. The group had previously attacked the Chinese consulate in Karachi last November. The BLA also targeted a bus carrying Chinese workers in August, 2018.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
