With the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Reorganisation Act, 2019 to come into force from 31 October 2019, preparations are afoot to ensure administrative systems are in place in the new Union Territories (UT).
As per a Times of India report, orders have been issued by the general administration department to set up a full-fledged civil secretariat in Leh for the UT of Ladakh. Ladakh will also get its own inspector general of police (IGP) as per the provisions.
Earlier on Thursday (17 October), the state administration had notified the dissolution of the J&K legislative council and its staff was asked to report to the general administration department by 22 October.
With the historic act coming into force from 31 October, the J&K state will cease to exist and will be replaced by the UTs of J&K and Ladakh.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
