Under the union government’s flagship Smart City initiative, Pune Smart City Development Corporation Ltd (PSCDCL) has proposed to procure 80 specially-designed motorcycles for patrolling in Aundh, Baner and Balewadi (ABB) after it decided to introduce ‘smart police patrolling’ in the areas, reports Indian Express.

The motorcycles would have a variety of features, including a public address system (PAS), modified helmet, siren and video camera. Speakers would be mounted on the motorcycles and the patrolling policemen would wear helmets with in-built microphones linked to the PAS. This way even a solitary police officer will be able to communicate with the public. Flash lights on the front of the vehicle would distinguish Pune traffic police vehicles from others.

The mounted cameras would record all the traffic violations and all the equipment would be water-proof.

The GPS tracking system synced with other systems will enable live streaming to the mobile traffic command control centre. Apart from a helmet holder, the bikes will have compartment to keep jacket, baton and e-challan machine. The police personnel riding these motorcycles will also be given smart phones.

A comprehensive video surveillance project is also on the cards, in which PSCDCL aims to improve police-functioning in maintaining law and order.
