Recently, a teacher named Samuel Paty was beheaded in France for showing cartoons of Prophet Mohammed in his class. Chechen Abdullakh Anzorov, an 18-year-old radical Islamist, committed this crime. He was subsequently shot dead by the cops.
Agence France-Presse (AFP) has now reported that Anzorov had been in contact with a Russian-speaking jihadist in Syria. Le Parisien newspaper has revealed that the jihadist had been traced through an Internet Protocol (IP) address that was sourced back to a north-western city in Syria named Idlib.
The report adds that the exact identity of the Anzorov’s contact from the middle-eastern country is not yet certain.
French President Emmanuel Macron has called the gruesome killing an Islamist Terror Attack. Macron who has publicly paid tribute to Paty is also overseeing a nationwide crackdown on radical Islamists.
“Samuel Paty … became the face of the Republic, of our will to shatter terrorists, to (do away with) Islamists, to live like a community of free citizens in our country. We will continue. Samuel Paty was the victim of a conspiracy of stupidity, hate, lies … hate of the other … hate of what we profoundly are,” Indian Express quoted Macron saying.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
