In the ongoing drama over the Congress top-post, Rahul Gandhi declared on Wednesday (3 July) that he is no longer the party president, having submitted his resignation and urged the party to elect his replacement, ANI has reported.
Rahul Gandi commented that Congress should find a new president without any delay and claimed that he would play no role in the electoral process. He had purportedly resigned following Congress’ debacle in the Lok Sabha polls.
This statement comes a day after a party worker threatened to hang himself outside a Congress party office in Delhi if Rahul Gandhi does not take back his resignation.
Quite a few party leaders have also sat on an indefinite hunger strike over the issue in an attempt to change Rahul Gandhi’s mind. He was also visited by all five sitting Congress Chief Ministers over this issue., but the effort appears to have gone in vain.

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
