Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is expected to take over the post of party president by the end of this month.

According to sources, the nomination for the post of party president is likely to start from 10 October, if there is more than one candidate in the fray.

However, the Central Election Authority (CEC) of Congress has decided to fix the date around October 10 for the beginning of the election for the party president.

Rahul Gandhi is currently serving as the vice-president of the party, while his mother Sonia Gandhi, is holding the post of party president.

The results are expected to be announced by 25 October.

The state presidents of the Congress Party will be asked to file the nomination papers for the post of president either in state capitals or Congress headquarters.

The CEC of the Congress Party has reviewed the preparations for the elections with the Returning Officer. (ANI)
