Indian Railways goods trainIn a major achievement, Indian Railways has nearly doubled the average speed of freight trains from 22.98 kilometres per hour (kmph) on 21 June last year to 41.74 kmph on the bygone 21 June, reports Economic Times.
The positive development was made public by Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal who also shared that the Indian Railways was further leveraging the course of lockdown to complete long-awaited maintenance works and to re-write the time tables of the railways to further aid the freight operations.
As shared by Goyal, the Railways was re-writing the timetable to bring freight and parcel trains into the timetable so as to assure the businesses of committed delivery over long distances within a short span.
Meanwhile, on the passenger operations, Goyal shared that the Railways has resumed 230 trains on regular routes. However, he also added that these 230 trains are not witnessing full occupancy as the people are hesitant to travel.
