Rajasthan, which gave a clear mandate to the Congress in the recently held state Assembly elections, has given a massive shocker to the party as the Rahul Gandhi-led party is staring at a humiliating defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
According to the latest EC data, BJP is set to win 24 seats in Rajasthan while one seat may go to BJP’s ally Rashtriya Loktantrik Party’s Hanuman Beniwal, who is leading the Congress candidate by over 1.73 lakh votes.
State Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot is also trailing behind the BJP’s Gajendra Singh Shekhawat by over 2.6 lakh votes on Jodhpur Lok Sabha seat, as per the EC data.
In the Assembly elections held last year in December, the Congress had defeated the BJP and had formed its government in Rajasthan.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
