Actor Rhea Chakraborty in a statement on Thursday (7 August) termed an investigation by the CBI into the death of Sushant Singh Rajput as illegal by arguing that the premier investigative agency should stay away until the Supreme Court gives its verdict on the issue, NDTV has reported.
Chakraborty in her statement said that a CBI investigation at this point would be "totally illegal and beyond any known legal principles, affecting the Federal Structure of the Nation".
Chakraborty also claimed that Bihar Police has no jurisdiction in the matter and had earlier sought a transfer of the case to the Mumbai Police.
"The SC has directed all parties to file their replies and Mumbai Police are directed to place the report of investigations. Pending the said proceedings the CBI has registered (case) and continued the illegality which was perpetrated at the hands of Bihar Police. CBI being a premier investigative agency in the country should desist from taking any further steps pending the SC proceedings", Chakraborty added in her statement.
Incidentally this opposition to the CBI probe by Chakraborty comes just a few weeks after she had herself requested Home Minister Amit Shah to order a CBI probe into Rajput's death.
Chakraborty has also been asked to appear before the ED today (7 August) in the money laundering probe.
