As part of its ‘Project Hirak’, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has finished connecting a 2.5 km long stretch running from Lakhanpur to Naganj to the mainland in face of difficult challenges, reports Financial Express.
“This connectivity is very important being chicken neck corridor with Nepal in Dharchula Sub- Division of Uttarakhand, where the only alternative route was a mule track passing below the new road alignment,” army officials stated.
Heavy machinery had to be utilised through the riverbed in order to reach the level of the proposed road.
The now completed stretch is part of the Tawaghat-Ghatiabagarh-Lipulekh axis which is integral to easier access on the Kailash-Mansarovar pilgrimage route.
The 23 km section up to Lakhanpur from Tawaghat has already been completed and the 51 km portion of the road beyond Budhi village reaching till the Lipulekh pass has also been connected.
Movements for local people to Gunji and neighbouring areas will not be affected with the ongoing construction beyond Najang as a mule track bifurcates in the opposite direction as the direction of road construction.
“This will also provide round the clock connectivity to the army troops deployed in Vyas valley,” said an official.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
