The Russian foreign ministry on Tuesday (29 September) rubbished Pakistani media reports about 'secret negotiations' between the two countries regarding cooperation on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Reports emanating from Pakistan last week claimed that the Russian spy chief had made a visit to Pakistan to inspect the Gwadar port.

During his Turkmenistan visit last week, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had claimed that ‘may countries’ including Russia have shown willingness to join CPEC. His words were echoed by the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain who said that the Russian interest showed the significance of the project.
