BJP candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur defeated senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh by a margin of almost 3.6 lakh votes. Pragya in response to her imminent victory had earlier described it as a “victory of dharma over adharma”.
This was one of the most high profile battles of the Lok Sabha polls as Sadhvi Pragya who has been touted as a victim of UPA’s ‘Saffron Terror’ bogey was up against Digvijaya Singh who had helped spread the said narrative.
In the end, despite controversy over her Godse statement, Sadhvi Pragya polled 865,212 votes, almost 3.6 lakh more than Digvijaya Singh who polled 501,279 votes.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
