Businessman Raj Kundra, the husband of actress Shilpa Shetty, has been arrested by Mumbai Police's Crime Branch for being the alleged "key conspirator" in a case of producing pornographic films and pushing them through smartphone applications, reports Indian Express.
Earlier in February, the Property Cell of the Crime Branch had registered an FIR in connection with the case. It had then also arrested nine persons soon after. Kundra's name is said to have come up during the interrogation of the accused who were arrested.
Kundra was placed under arrest after he was called for questioning yesterday (19 July). Mumbai Police's Commissioner has said, "We have sufficient evidences regarding this. The investigation is in progress."
The Police has said that in the racket, women were being lured into acting in pornographic films with the promises of being cast in web series.
It should be noted that Kundra's name had earlier last year also come up in a similar case registered by the Maharashtra Cyber Police. In the case, Kundra had filed for anticipatory bail, and the court is likely to decide on his plea next week.
