Singareni Collieries To Build India’s First-Of-Its-Kind Geothermal Power Plant In Telangana

In collaboration with the Department of Science and Technology of the Union Ministry of Coal, the State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is setting up a pilot Geothermal power generation project.
India’s first-of-its-kind Geothermal power plant will be set up at Pagideru village of Manuguru area of Bhadradri Kothagudem district in Telangana.
The Union Ministry released Rs 1.72 crore for the execution of the geothermal power plant to generate 20 kilowatts of power. Singareni is targeting completion of the project by March 2022, reports BusinessLine.
During the drilling to identify the coal reserves, hot steam wells in the Manuguru region were discovered by the Geological Survey of India (GSI) and the Singareni Collieries.
SCCL is a Government coal mining company jointly owned by the Government of Telangana and the Government of India on a 51:49 equity basis.
The Singareni coal reserves stretch across 350 Km of the Pranahita – Godavari Valley of Telangana, with proven geological reserves aggregating to a whopping 8,791 million tonnes.
SCCL is currently operating 20 opencast and 25 underground mines in 4 districts of Telangana with a workforce of around 43,895.
