In a move that supports the skilling of youth in North Eastern India, the Assam government is going to establish a Skill University with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, reports The Economic Times.
The foundation stone of Assam Skill University at Mangaldoi, Darrang was laid by the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal on Monday (15 February).
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Government of Assam will fund the project at a ratio of 80:20. The University is planned in an area of 83 acres with advanced facilities like effluent treatment plant, rainwater harvesting and energy conservation through solar energy etc.
It will provide specialized short-term training, advance diploma, Bachelor of Vocation, Masters of Vocation and Research Level Vocational courses.
An official statement stated that this will be a first of its kind University in the entire eastern part of India will cater to over 10,000 students from the region and will further intensify our focus on the Act East Policy to bring investments to the state of Assam and make our state vibrant and thriving.
The Government of Assam is also exploring partnership arrangements with countries like Singapore, Germany, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia, Israel, Japan and the United Kingdom etc., for providing sector specific expertise to this University.
