Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) consumers will soon be able to identify the most suited rooftops to install solar panels on, ET Energy reports.
A non-profit institute, the Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), is in the process of building a tool which will identify rooftops which have potential to install solar Rooftop Photovoltaic (RTPV) plants.
Further, CSTEP would be joining hands with BESCOM to bring the technology to the city’s residents. The partnership will help BESCOM achieve its target of one gigawatt of solar RTPV capacity by 2021-22.
The research organisation said, “This first-of-its-kind tool can accurately assess the potential of in Bengaluru and the associated business case for all consumer categories.”
CSTEP said that the tool would launch in 2019, and all BESCOM consumers will be able to access the tool freely and decide upon making investments. “These efforts are aimed at a larger objective of enabling adoption of an integrated power-sector planning framework,” CSTEP said.
Further, CSTEP is also in talks with the government in Bihar and helping them to understand the scalability of this approach for developing energy via RTPV strategically.
